Ladder Climb
This component tests muscular strength, balance, and endurance.
Description
For this event, you must climb 70 feet up an aerial ladder set at 70 degrees.
You will be attached to a safety line. This is the last event of the Physical
Ability Test and is not timed. Candidates unable to successfully complete this
event will not be allowed to continue the testing process. For this event only,
applicants will not be required to wear the self-contained breathing apparatus
(SCBA). However, you will be required to wear your helmet and turnout coat and
gloves for safety.
Preparation Tips
To prepare for this event you may want
to practice climbing a sturdy ladder to the height of a typical two-story house.
Practice carefully and slowly climbing up and down the ladder.
